Surgery Day

Today our sweet dog, Zoey, is going into surgery. She has a condition called, Luxating Patella (or "floating kneecap"), and it needs to be corrected so that she can walk and run correctly. If we don't take care of it now, then her kneecap will eventually disintegrate and she won't be able to use her leg at all.

Robbie and I are feeling pretty good about the surgery itself, but are more concerned with recovery period. For the first two weeks, she will hardly be able to move; we have to limit her activity almost completely. The following two weeks, her activity can increase, but very slowly. She is a super active pup who loves to run, loves to play with other dogs, and loves to be involved in everything we do. After the four-week recovery is finished, she should be back to normal. Wish us luck!

  4. Sob - We have to keep her on a leash to make sure she doesn't walk around too much, or we have to keep her in her crate when we leave. The vet said that if she has too much activity on it, then it could null the entire procedure. Pressure!

  6. Grandma is so glad to hear that Zoey came through her surgery so smoothly. I talked to Robbie right after she got home so I heard she was walking like a drunk! Hope someone took video!

You guys are so good with her routines, I know you will do her therapy with diligence and she will be back to her runs in the park very soon. Her buddies will miss her!
